Welcome. All parts of you are invited to this experience in self-care. I am looking forward to meeting you, just as you are now and discovering who you can be.

Often times the things we bring into therapy are on the edge of our comfort zone or things we have not shared with anyone in the past. I bring gentleness to my approach which allows us to explore these concerns with safety and care. I believe while meaningful change may happen quickly, it may also take time. My goal is to help you find your own pace.

I love working with self-identified women and youth from ages 13 and up. Some of the areas I specialize in include:

  • Relationship Issues & Skills

  • Break-ups (romantic or with friends)

  • Body Image or Food Issues

  • Work and Activism Burnout

  • Family Stress

  • Pregnancy Anxiety

  • Grief

  • Feminist Counselling

  • Multicultural Identities

  • Sexual Assault and Trauma

  • Reproductive Health and Choice

  • Adolescents

  • Anxiety & Depression

  • Self Esteem and Self Worth

  • Life Planning and transitions

  • Spiritual Exploration

“Supporting women in healing is my life’s work. I believe each time a woman finds her unique voice and truth, the world is changed for the better. The delicate work of the heart is the revolution. "

— Monica Nijjar, RCC

This is a time and space for you. Let’s focus on what you need to increase your confidence, find your voice, and let go of what no longer serves.

I hold a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology and Women’s and Gender Studies. I have also earned a Masters in Counselling Psychology with an emphasis on holistic healing and mind, body, and spirit approaches to counselling. I am a Registered Clinical Counsellor.

I have over 10 years of experience  working in counselling and support work in women's organizations. I have specialized in women's issues, sexual assault and trauma, reproductive health, substance use, and youth and adolescents.

Outside of my private practice, I am privileged to work as a counsellor at BC Women’s Hospital focused on pregnancy loss and traumatic birth.

My passion to provide you with client centered care has led me to complete trainings within the following clinical modalities:

  • Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)

  • Narrative Therapy

  • Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (MBSR)

  • Functional Analytic Psychotherapy (FAP)

  • Psychosynthesis

Let’s put you first. As women, it can be easy to neglect our own needs. Do something rare and rebellious today by booking an appointment. Your emotional, mental, spiritual and physical well being matters.

"Monica has a way of opening up space for women so they feel stronger in living the life they wish for. The way that she is able to hear, believe and really see those around her inspires clients to  live their lives more freely. Her gentleness leaves others feeling softer and more compassionate to the world around them."
